Poster Design//2018
Every day, millions of Native Americans live without validation of their ancestry because the federal tribal recognition system doesn’t recognize them as “native enough.” I wanted to shed some light the scale of the issue—on just how many unrecognized tribes could be found on the West Coast.
Capstone Project//2018
Ad Astra is a project that questions the history of colonization by imagining a future where humans have colonized other parts of our solar system through more sensitive, collaborative, and respectful means. Inspired by the topics explored in The Saltwater We Know class, and by historical and contemporary stories of Native Americans, I wanted to design a project about the immense responsibility ‘explorers’ take on as they colonize new frontiers. In this future, humans have explored and colonized Venus, the moon, Mars, and Ceres, as well as established outposts throughout the system.
Poster Design//2017
Our class was asked to produce a poster for this year’s Bumbershoot music and arts festival. I wanted to try a vector line illustration with many different items arranged on the page.
Typeface Design//2016
Continuing the Maximum project, this project called for further development of that typeface. I decided, though, to start fresh and work on a Didot-inspired typeface that was more square while maintaining the serif and stroke contrast. The font is called Corbeil after the town near which Fermin Didot was born.
